Are there upgrades available?

Yes. Software upgrades that fix bugs and add minor new features are available as free downloads from the Support page. Map updates and major software upgrades are not free, but upgrade costs are reasonable.

The timing of map updates is largely determined by LINZ. We update MapToaster when sufficient updates have been made to the topo maps to make it worthwhile. The last major update was Oct 2009.

MapToaster Topo/NZ, version 5, makes the transition to the new Topo50 maps series, which replaces the existing NZMS260 maps. The Topo50 maps will be in the new NZ Transverse Mercator Projection (NZTM 2000). The MapToaster Mobile/NZ maps are not affected by the change to NZTM and will not be updated at that time.

If you purchased MapToaster Topo/NZ after 1 April 2009, you can upgrade to MapToaster Topo/NZ, V5, for the cost of the media kit $20. For the 2009 upgrade, if you purchased after 1-August-2009, the upgrade will be free. We will email you with details on ordering upgrades

The new Topo50 maps do not represent a complete remapping of NZ. The Topo50 maps replace NZMS260 and have revised cartography and a new coordinate system, NZTM. However, only a small proportion of the underlying mapping is updated each year. Since the 2006 MapToaster Topo/NZ release only a small fraction and of the total number of map sheets have been revised, and other sheets have had minor updates. Don't expect that the new mapping will be totally update to date, as in some areas it hasn't been updated for some time.
